a poem that has (almost) nothing to do with Christmas...
Most of us have quickly learned
that of the money we have earned
we need to squirrel some away
and save up for our holiday.
Used stamps we save to help the blind,
and in many cupboards you will find
boxes, ribbons, tissue paper,
odds and ends that'll "come in later"
Some economies, though small,
have implications for us all -
switch off a light, save energy,
protect our planet for you and me.
One resource we can't conserve
(used up quicker than we deserve),
time's the thing that we all lack
spend it wisely - it won't come back!
that of the money we have earned
we need to squirrel some away
and save up for our holiday.
Used stamps we save to help the blind,

wordybirdies' Weekly Poem for Friday 11th December 2009
So what if Christmas is nearly here,
the warmth has gone, the skies are clear,
the night-time’s twice as long as day,
your summer stuff’s been packed away -
for though it is the festive season
frankly that is just no reason
to stay indoors and have hot drinks,
that’s just what everybody thinks.
Steaming chips in soggy paper,
that’s the perfect winter caper!
Eaten from your frozen hand
as you stroll the windswept sand.
Dare to be different, cut a dash -
but maybe skip the icy splash
in six-foot waves on winter seas!
You don’t really want to freeze!
And instead of your bikini,
sunhat, sunshade, dry martini,
wear all your lovely winter togs.
If you’ve got them, take the dogs!
Just get out there and pretend
the summer’s never going to end.
That sunshine feeling’s in your reach.
Shrug off the winter – hit the beach!

a little update from the wordybirdies for 9th december
Christmas is approaching fast, isn't it? and the wordybirdies are working flat out to get the website up and live by New Year. Who knew there was so much to do? But it will certainly be worth it when you see it.
Weekly Poem coming in less than forty-eight hours...thinking it will be on some sort of seasonal theme, but definitely not about pudding, mince pies or brandy butter!

Girls’ Night in
Around the table we are sat
To share a meal and girly chat
We’ll talk ourselves nearly hoarse
You bring the starter, I’ll do the main course
Catching up on all we’ve done
Drinking wine and having fun
“Haven’t heard from you in a while
Good to see you, I’ve missed your smile”
“Been away? Tell us what you did
How’s the other half and kids?”
Sharing all our hopes and fears
Our aches and pains and our careers
Some of it’s important stuff
Much of it just bits of fluff -
“You’ll never guess what I’ve just heard,
Keep it secret, tell not a word!”
Swapping advice and hearing news,
Telling stories that amuse
“Tell me now, what’s your view,
In my shoes, what would you do?”
All the things we see in life -
Latest celebs under the knife
“More chocolate pud? I simply couldn’t!”
“Another glass? I really shouldn’t ….”
And by the end of the night
We have put the world to rights
But, at last, we are replete
Not just with food we’ve had to eat
Maybe shed some tears but had a laugh
A problem shared’s one cut in half
All in all, there is no doubt
A girls’ night in is the new night out
Around the table we are sat
To share a meal and girly chat
We’ll talk ourselves nearly hoarse
You bring the starter, I’ll do the main course

a new type of poetry from wordybirdies for early December
have another look at the weekly poem and see if you can spot what we've done.
The first letter of each line spells - how appropriate! - wintertime and this is the first acrostic poem we've done on our blog. the wordybirdies thought it was maybe time for a little poetic experiment to get the festive season going...hope you love it.
