wordybirdies say thank you all round

...to the very lively members of Bradley Thursday Club who really made performing at their Summer Social an absolute pleasure. What stars you all were!

now wordybirdies are working on new material for their upcoming September Show in Coedpoeth but also of course working very hard on promoting the online poetry business side of our work as well.

it's going to be a long, hot, hardworking but ultimately profitable (we hope) summer - lots more poetic musings to come, and lots more performances from wordybirdies LIVE! as well

sitting in the garden being poetic!

if only we were! what a beautiful day - perfect for setting up camp in the garden and getting going on some more pieces for wordybirdies LIVE!

but can't take the PC into the garden, unfortunately, and the laptop isn't playing ball at all - may resort to the low-tech (and best) way later - pen and paper. coloured pen, even, as it's summer!

another great wordybirdies audience

Yes, a big thank you to the ladies of Llay WI on Monday evening who gave us such a warm welcome, and who clearly really enjoyed the wordybirdies LIVE! show.

we had a wonderful time - how we love performing - and were so pleased with the warm reception that we got.

third show of the week tomorrow night - big audience too! can't wait!

if you belong to a group that is looking for entertainment then e-mail us at nest@wordybirdies.co.uk our rates are very reasonable and we always include a poem dedicated to our hosts!

great audience!

The perfect description of our Friday night audience at Marchwiel over-40s Friendship Club - they were brilliant, they laughed at everything, including some stuff we didn't even think was that funny, but that just goes to show that wordybirdies appeal to everyone's sense of humour!

this Club has just got going and Friday was its fourth meeting, so we say more power to their elbow - if you'd like to go along, it meets at Piercy Hall on alternate Fridays - so that would make its next meeting Friday 25th June 2010, we think.

there are usually announcements in the Evening Leader on the community page but if you live locally you are bound to know someone who goes to the Club.

wordybirdies LIVE! - three shows in a week

yes indeed - the two-woman show phenomenon that is wordybirdies LIVE! starts a really busy week with three separate shows coming up within six days...having a ball sorting the programme for each one and making up special poem for each host group.

we LOVE performing! especially as we perform only our own original work, which gives us a double creative edge - we write it and then we recite it - man, that rhymes! we are poets!!!

the World Cup decision...

if you follow us on Twitter, you'll already know it but yes, we are going to write a World Cup poem this week and post it on our site on Friday, just in time for the big kick-off on Friday night.

we mulled for, ooh, ten minutes, before arriving at this decision! what can we say? wordybirdies like to be up with the zeitgeist - we also like just saying zeitgeist, especially as one of us can speak a bit of German...

personally, think it's time we all started speaking Latin again...let's get something started about that, shall we? I feel another Weekly Poem theme coming on...primus inter pares, can you beat that for a phrase???

Monday, 7 June 2010

the World Cup - to write a poem or not?

Yes, folks, that is the question of the day, or possibly the week. Do wordybirdies go with the flow, jump right in and come up with the goods in the form of a World Cup poem? Or do we ignore the whole shebang...we don't do football, either of us, but that doesn't mean we can manage to avoid the general hysteria...some cogitating required here, I think.

on the upside there will be plenty of times in the next five weeks when it will be nice and quiet on the roads and in the shops, so maybe there really is a silver lining to every cloud!

wordybirdies back blogging!

yes, here we are - back blogging, hopped right back on our twig!

that first wordybirdies LIVE! show went down a storm - thank you the ladies of Hope and Caergwrle Ladies' Club - we had a great time entertaining you.

lots more bookings in the pipeline but we are always looking for more - contact us via the website or direct at nest@wordybirdies.co.uk for entertainment with a difference.

beautiful day outside today - spring is sprung all around although the breeze off the mountain is a little bit on the cool side - at least one of the wordybirdies likes the temperature a bit nearer eighty but I guess an extra top is always the answer...

lots more blogging to come, folks - watch this space!

wordybirdies back on the twig!

oh yes we are! we've been away from the blog for ten days and now it's time to get back!
we've been mad busy preparing the show for its premiere on 29th April and are pleased to say it went down a storm. AND...we also had great fun.
got plenty more bookings coming up too...but we'd love your group or society to enjoy our entertainment as well...e-mail us via the website at www.wordybirdies.co.uk

bringing the house down

it's no exaggeration! wordybirdies' performance at the Help for Heroes event in Llangollen on Saturday night was really really well received. We did two very funny pieces (Trolley Dolly and Fabulous Forty) and the audience loved both. we had a wonderful time bringing our verse to a live crowd.

we are available for bookings too - our all-new two-woman show (which runs for up to an hour) is being finalised this week and next and then launched on 29th April - looking for some lively fun entertainment? something a bit different for your group or society?

log onto www.wordybirdies.co.uk and send us an e-mail...

we're in North Wales so do bear that in mind!

have a great week!

cabaret time!

Yes, tomorrow evening certainly is Cabaret Night! and wordybirdies are performing three separate poems at this marvellous Charity event in Llan in aid of Help for Heroes - plenty of other attractions too - Weird Sisters American Tribal bellydance group, Infinity Cymru electro-pop duo, Llangollen Rugby Club (the finale, that's all you need to know!), salsa dancers, singers, and a great MC in Idris Evans!

what a great night we are all going to have - and the regimental goat is coming too!

workshops and Mother's Day poems

Bore da ! Hope you are having a lovely Wednesday.

wordybirdies are thrilled to be starting work on the poem for our GLOW Mother's Day competition winner...she was so excited at winning so we hope she and her Mum will be thrilled with the finished poem on Sunday!

wordybirdies also hard at work preparing for wordybirdies LIVE! our two-woman show which we're taking round the area from April - tonight we are workshopping some of our material, a particulary funny and fab poem about...well, you'll have to wait and see, or maybe book us for your event and find out that way!

contact us via the website if you're interested www.wordybirdies.co.uk

wordybirdies waiting for Mother's Day competition winner!

Yes, we are waiting to find out which customer of GLOW beauty salon in Mold has won a specially-composed poem for her mother on that special day this Sunday. Should know very soon as the draw was made last night.

There is still time for people to order Mother's Day poems from us! go to the website www.wordybirdies.co.uk and click on what we do for info and then go to how you order...what a lovely surprise for your Mum on Sunday.

and we LOVE writing those poems!

wordybirdies love plas teg

Yes, we do - did you see it on Country House Rescue last night? Cornelia Bayley is amazing and we hope lots of you go and visit the house now.

In fact, wordybirdies were so impressed we have decided to write our Weekly Poem about Plas Teg - and dedicate it to Cornelia for all her hard work, vision and persistence.

see for yourself anyway at www.plasteg.com

the Poem will be on our website later today

Monday, 1 March 2010

March 1st 2010 - Saint David's Day - wordybirdies say wear your daffodil with pride!

Yes, today is Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant, the day of our patron saint, David, here in Wales, so it's out with the daffodils, the odd leek, the Welsh rugby jerseys, the stuffed dragons and all the rest of it...fantastic way to start the week!

Hwyl fawr, pawb!

Friday, 26 February 2010

wordybirdies look forward to the week-end!

oh yes we do...particularly if there is going to be some sunshine!

as I am writing this, there is actually snow coming down outside the window...nothing compared to what is evidently going on in the Highlands but enough for me to start wondering when winter will stop and spring will arrive.

who knows, maybe then the wordybirdies could write a poem about daffodils...that's never been done before, after all!

thinking of a theme for this week's Poem...maybe the Winter Olympics? That's a celebration of all things snowy, in a way, and also of people who plunge down icy mountains head first on what appears to be a tin tray! Well done, Amy Williams!

Wednesday, 24 February 2010

frustration and versification!

frustrating trying to work on some poetry while next door's music has huge bass beats thumping out - wordybirdies pride themselves on being able to compose verse anywhere but all the same...still, we like a challenge and the verses are coming along slowly - these are for the two-woman show that we are putting together...exciting times, folks!

and the snow is melting...hands up if all you want is a glimpse of spring - yes, us too!

Monday, 22 February 2010

wordybirdies say - THINK!

Yes, folks, today, 22nd February is Thinking Day, which will be instantly reconigsable to those of you who were Brownies, Guides, Cubs or Scouts. Something to do with the Baden-Powells' birthday, I think.

Anyway, how about a bit of thinking then? wordybirdies thinking we should have written our Weekly Poem about this but we love this week's offering about the DIY enthusiasts so much that Thinking Day has been put aside in favour of it. If you want to love that poem too it's on the website at www.wordybirdies.co.uk

Still, thinking is free - at least it is at present! do it before it's taxed - so treat yourselves today, set aside ten minutes and have a good old think about something you don't normally even pause to ponder.

What will that be, we wonder?

For one wordybirdie, it will be - how does that blue tit manage to hang upside-down on the bird feeder when the robin just can't figure it out at all and has to wait for the scraps that fall on the ground?

Maybe we should rename this Philosophy Day!

Thursday, 11 February 2010

anniversaries etc.

Yes, today is the twenty-seventh anniversary of Nelson Mandela walking to freedom...if you remember the TV footage then you'll surely never forget it.
Sometimes, when the news is full of war, woe and worry, it pays just to take a moment or two to ponder the great moments in history, especially if you were around to witness it even at secondhand on the TV.

The world is much much bigger than just you and me...easy to forget that when we are caught up in the minutiae of our daily lives.

have a good day - twenty-seven years ago February 10th was a very good day...for everyone.

here's to many more...for all of us.

Monday, 8 February 2010

wordybirdies look forward to a new week

well, the opening week-end of the Six Nations was terrible and not just because Wales lost, sorry, threw it away...the other two games were poor as well.

We need better than this, folks - we need a win!

That's the motivational team talk over for today then - next is the work on our Weekly Poem which this week will be on the theme of LOVE - what else...

lots more lovely things happening this week too - it's nice to start out on a Monday looking forward to the week to come...

Saturday, 6 February 2010

six nations week-end - wordybirdies say yippee!

well, one of the wordybirdies does...not sure the other one is quite so bothered.

the red shirt is washed, ironed and hanging in the wardrobe ready for five-o-clock - not sure anyone can predict the result with confidence but as always happy to go out on a limb here and say Wales will prevail!

gorgeous day out there - perfect for poetry! Let's hope there's some action on the pitch that inspires it - if not, then you can always see the Six Nations Weekly Poem on our website www.wordybirdies.co.uk

have a great day - whichever nation you are supporting.

hwyl!

great poems under construction at wordybirdies!

yes, that is a bit of blowing our own trumpet there, but why not? it is almost the week-end, after all!

wordybirdies currently working on a couple of cracking performance poems ahead of our next public engagement - more details of that in due course - poems which we hope will keep the audience enthralled as well as laughing themselves off the edge of their seats!

Maybe we'll post an excerpt here sometime soon so that you too can laugh yourself off the edge of your seat.

we live to entertain, people!

Thursday, 4 February 2010

wordybirdies take on the crunch!

yes, we do! who in their right minds would start a business in the pit of a recession, you might ask? well, we would! someone has to start those green shoots of recovery (how that phrase has been adopted by everyone since it was first uttered in public!) so it might as well be us.

it seems that potential customers are everywhere once we start looking and people are really liking our poetry so we both have all our fingers crossed that things will get better and better as time goes on.

it's an amazing, exciting journey that we've embarked upon and we're having a ball!

Monday, 1 February 2010

starting february with a two-woman show from wordybirdies!

yes, wordybirdies are working on our two-woman show which is coming to a venue near you shortly! sorry for sounding like a billboard there but the show will be great and we have lots of material, all written by us, of course and performed by us too!

looking for audiences now - if you fancy having some entertainment from wordybirdies
then e-mail us via our website at www.wordybirdies.co.uk

more info will be on there very soon

Friday, 29 January 2010

wordybirdies win on january 29th!

yes, wordybirdies have finally triumphed over the computer glitch - yippee! now we have that lovely serene feeling that comes from knowing things have been sorted out, and also that ever-present apprehension about when the next thing will happen! such is life in the digital age.

really looking forward to the week-end - we have a meeting today with a very very talented lady who makes the most incredible cakes and of course we are hoping that some of her clients will also become ours - a double whammy for those very special occasions...actually we really really want to see the cakes too!

Wednesday, 27 January 2010

speaking too soon!

ha ha - that will teach us! into every life some rain must fall and so it is with us as we try and grapple with the intricacies of the computer - we will prevail, though!

wordybirdies' website looking more fab than ever now - visit us at www.wordybirdies.co.uk and see what we mean.

Tuesday, 26 January 2010

wordybirdies become technoholics

yes it's true - we are gradually becoming fans of the computer - who ever believed this would happen? big thanks to Becky at Mintpepper for helping us with all of it but bit by bit we are getting good at the techno-stuff. As well, of course, as already being good at the poetry!

the Australian Open tennis has stopped for a fireworks display - this wouldn't happen at Wimbledon! - Andy Murray should maybe have played yesterday, on Burns Night!

let's hope he wins and gives us some grins!

Wow! the bard has struck!

Monday, 25 January 2010

wordybirdies say it's st dwynwen's day!

and so it is - today, 25th january is indeed st dwynwen's day - the patron saint of lovers (at least here in Wales) - time to make more of this marvellous occasion, we think, as well as Valentine's Day - two bites of the cherry within a month! That can't be bad, can it?

hope you have a romantic evening.

wordybirdies say enjoy Burns Night!

Yes, today is Burns Night, if you know what we mean. We did the kilt and haggis (and vegetarian option) on Saturday including someone who tried to translate the ode to the haggis - not very successfully, it has to be said.

Old Rabbie could pen a poem or two so wordybirdies are putting our Weekly Poem tribute to him on the website this evening...

Saturday, 23 January 2010

wordybirdies' special poetry stars at the Mayor's event

what an amazing week it's been for the wordybirdies - culminating in our performance at the Mayor of Wrecsam's Charity Dinner Dance - we went down a storm, even though we say so ourselves!

enormous fun writing and performing the poems - and it made the Mayor very happy and it helped his fund-raising so everyone was happy!

now that the first performance has been done we're really looking forward to more - as well, of course, as writing our special poems to order for our online clients!

have a great week-end - we already are!

Tuesday, 19 January 2010

the weekly poem from wordybirdies for january 18th

Here it is - we've gone for brevity this week. Oh, and shameless advertising!

So now there are two poets from Wales
Who know what celebration entails
A poem just for you
That’s what they do
And send the verse out in e-mails!

Have a great week.

Monday, 18 January 2010

wordybirdies Weekly Poem has moved days

Yes, it's true - we've moved the publication of our Weekly Poem from Friday to Monday so watch this space for something marvellous on here later!

Thursday, 14 January 2010

it will happen when it will happen!

the momentous thing, of course...have decided to learn patience today and take it as it comes.

in fact, am feeling rather poetic this morning, which is handy when you run a poetry business!

tomorrow it will be time for the wordybirdies Weekly Poem to appear once more so thinking caps on for the theme and then pens at the ready for the actual verses...

Wednesday, 13 January 2010

it's a white Wednesday out there...

...in North Wales anyway and, I imagine, everywhere else too. Still really appreciating the prettiness of it all but the inconvenience is driving me nuts. Why is everything grinding to a halt? Did it used to be like this? Is nostalgia really what it used to be?

These and other questions will...well, probably, never be answered!

Momentous announcement didn't happen yesterday but that could be down to the snow as well...maybe. It should be coming later today though, even with the snow.

Fingers are crossed - a lot!

Tuesday, 12 January 2010

big news coming later today

today is going to be a bit of a momentous day for wordybirdies, as there is very big news coming later...need to be tantalising for the next hour or two but after that it will be out!

nice to see something that we've worked hard for coming to fruition although in fact it is just the start of something.

the weather has become weird, by the way - drifts two feet deep on the mountain road above us, not because of anything falling from the sky but from the high wind blowing the snow off the hills onto the road...and the cars!

love the whiteness but please, please can we have a bit less of it for a day or two?

Monday, 11 January 2010

Monday morning musings from wordybirdies

So, another morning waking up to snow falling. The silence is very inspiring and very conducive to writing poetry although the sound of shovels outside scraping the snow off the path is a reminder that inconvenience is usually the thing we first notice when the snow comes down.

If you're struggling to get to work or school or your aged relatives, just take the odd moment to wonder at how different everything looks when it's blanketed in white.

Then, back to shovelling!!!

wordybirdies have taken flight! January 1st 2010

Well, it's true! wordybirdies.co.uk is now live - this is so exciting for us for we have spent three months getting the website content right and mintpepper webworks have spent the same amount of time getting all the tech and design stuff right.

Hope you love the result. We do!
