the Weekly Poem - Heroes and Heroines

Here it is, the special Wordybirdies Weekly Poem for National Poetry Day, whose theme is Heroes and Heroines:





October 2nd 2009 - Hydref 2 2009





No need of medal nor laurel wreath,

everyday heroes go on beneath,

quietly adding love to life,

easing out the strain and strife

in simple acts that mean so much:

the sunny smile, the gentle touch,

the cheery wave, the friendly word,

the heartfelt thank you, the worry heard,

the offer of help not sought out,

good intentions not in doubt.



For all of this there is no cost -

so much is gained, and nothing lost.

Everyday heroes are everywhere

Your chance to join them is right there.

Make the difference, do the good deed -

To be a hero - that's all you need.
